Learn to dodge and weave. Find ways to make them feel powerful. Don’t take anything they say personally. Get used to feeling degraded. Be prepared to be blamed. Learned all this working for some very narcissists at Accenture. Take their advice and thank them even if u don’t want or need their advice.
So true. It’s not fun. I have had best of the best managers in the past and they make you feel so valued that you start looking forward to coming to office on Mondays.
Another tip I learned, when interacting with them, stay focused on the topic and remove them from your mind. Don’t let their negativity affect how you would have anyway interacted.
More…they argue to win not to have constructive discussion. They already have made up their minds. When sharing your views don’t expect them to change their views or perceptions but ask …what you are missing in your understanding and ask them to fill in the blanks. (Way to make them feel powerful)
One thing for sure not going to work for this manager long term. Any experiences where due to narcissist manager you had to change job/roles?
I hate when my boss constantly tries to mansplain the reason for his narcissism and manipulation. Just admit your toxic dude it's okay
