We all walked home- no parents in sight
Not at all. We got on the bus and let ourselves in when we got home. The moms at this school do the exact same thing as yours. They start lining up at 1:45. We don't let out until 2:45. It's insane to me.
Well, my grandpa did but that was because picking us up was the one thing he did every day, so “early” got him out of the house. And 30 years later my father-in-was the same with my kids. Guess that will be me in 10-15 years.
The changes today are amazing! There were no car lines during my school days either. I stayed after school with my drama group and chorus practice, then walked home... at times with a small group.
No. Parents line the streets at pick up time. I’m in an all walking district. Most kids don’t walk, even though they live close. It’s laziness.
Yes! It's definitely difficult and different now. Parents are double parked, and sometimes ignorant to the crossing guards. They just want to grab their child and leave as quickly as they can.
I think kids were less scheduled when I was a kid. Parents didn't have to get them from school to another activity every day of the week.
It’s definitely interesting! I grew up a bus kid every day unless I had an appointment. I’ve had meetings an hour before dismissal at our upper school across the street and I see people lined up already! Sometimes it’s a teacher at the upper school picking up their kid, but not always! I’m happy for the ones that don’t ride the bus some of our routes are up to an hour long :/
We either road the bus or walked to school. That was it. Parents never lined up to pick us up or drop us off. It’s a little nuts to see how parents react these days to picking up their kids from school.
