Given your title, I assume you’re a specialist.

What’s going to happen most often is that the corporate team/client will not understand your requests, or the reason behind them. Be prepared to explain them as many times as necessary.

As regards deal flow and timeline. Don’t be afraid to pick up the phone and call the corporate team and ask. They won’t bite. Usually there will be someone the same level as you (junior/midlevel/senior) so find this person ans talk to them.

like

Take good notes and provide updates as the info comes in, don't wait for a request from the seniors (unless they tell you to do that). Keep a separate to do list if it is a bigger transaction, make sure you spend at least a little bit of time on it every day so nothing slips through the cracks. Do the heavy lifting of doc review ASAP, make sure doc review is never something that holds up the timeline.

What’s the average salary for a Sr. Project Manager that is a contractor? I received an offer for $140k. I don’t think the compensation is aligned for the scope of work.

I’m convinced that the reason some of these firms are so prestigious is because they have intentionally exclusionary recruitment practices. I used to believe that you had to already be rich to get hired at MBB. Now being on the other side of the recruitment process , I really do feel that it rings true. I hate the way we evaluate candidates and decide on who is “high priority” during coffee chats.

Ah thank you so much for doing this! My husband and I are planning to dive into this this summer, but frankly it seems impossible. The downpayment thing is pesky

Senior attorneys at v100, how common is it for attorneys who start at small firms to lateral to biglaw? Have you worked with any? Conventional wisdom is always that if you don’t start there it’s hard to “trade up”. My coworker and I just did it to two different great v30 firms, and I’m wondering if it’s really that uncommon? Just out of curiosity. We’re not special counsel with special niche skills or anything, just associates. Pitfalls to beware? Positives?

I’m in a tough spot—still waiting for conflicts to clear and out of the blue, a partner reached out regarding a project that they’ve staffed me on. They want my availability to begin working on the matter next week…how do I handle this? I haven’t given notice, but expect to do so soon…I don’t think it’s prudent to start a new matter esp. since I know I’m leaving…but I can’t turn down work with a straight face (especially because my hours are in “checked out” mode)…

I’m a 9th year in a mostly litigation-based practice group at a one-tier partnership firm. My group’s billable hours have been low the last few years, so making partner will be nearly impossible, and a counsel position is not viable long-term in my group. What’s the best option here if partnership is the ultimate goal? Try to get a NEP/counsel position at another firm, which is likely difficult in my market, or offer to take a class cut by a few years?
