People skills. Or more specifically, manager skills. Knowing how to get on your manager's good side and have them go to bat for you when you're up for promotion. It's seriously so important. You can be the best employee in the world and stay at the same level for a decade if the decision makers don't notice or don't care about you.

I agree. It’s so important to have social skill when dealing with multiple personalities with customers and employees. If you can navigate and show that you are ready to take on managing others then the promotion is already at your feet.
Truthfully, at a lot of the companies I’ve worked for, you have to play the politics. I hate to say it, but it seems like the people who are in with management are the ones who get promoted—not necessarily the ones who work the hardest. I do think being a likeable person helps as well.

Oh yea I definitely see that at my job right now. There is so much politics within the workplace. You have to be able to navigate how to move and befriend certain managers to get that promotion. Definitely being a people person will help with that promotion as well.

For my role at my workplace, if I am not making mistakes while working on cases plus participating in meetings and all can lead to a promotion. Since I deal with people' s money, it is important for me to make sure I do not make mistakes.

I get why that making a lot of mistakes in the industry that you are in can cause you to not get promoted. I’m assuming you are in the finance industry? I know you have to get the numbers right before anything.
Pro
Absolutely! For me, I think consistency in delivering results and taking initiative really gets noticed. Hard work speaks louder than anything else.

Oh yea definitely agree that hard work and results will lead you to a promotion at work. One of my colleagues that I work with for years has gotten a promotion more than two times in the last 5 years. She didn’t know anyone but she put in that work and got promoted.
