Altman Solon comes to mind as the premier TMT boutique, I’m just not sure if it’s software or other parts of tech
In my 3rd PE shop - no one ever thinks of them as a premier shop
A&M has a relatively new technology group for PE vertical. Quite a few in my tech consulting circle went there.
Seconded
SSG and Bain Tech Insights Group
But why are they winning?
EYP/Bain are T1, Altman/BCG T1A, S&/A&M/WM do it and are ok
Largely agree. A few adds and nuances:
1. Altman much stronger on the telco / infrastructure side.
2. OW currently building out their software DD practice. 12-18 months from now might put them in the “ok” bucket
3. Other boutiques - Palo Alto Strategy Group (PASG). Largely MM / LMM focused
4. Bains strength in TIG will be heavily buoyed by their overall strength in Tech sector commercial DD
We’re hiring in this space. Feel free to PM me !
SSG is number 1 if it’s deeply technical and software centric. Their entire team is focused on technology and it’s a fully ring-fenced group. Altman Solon is number 1 for telco, that’s 90% of what they do. Bain and BCG have coverage across a lot of categories but they are less technical in their CDD teams. I find them ok for less complex vertical software. Their TIG product and tech diligence team is meh.
I see how you might think that, but no. I lead tech ops for a large fund. I’ve worked with all of these firms over the years
