By PE Ops, I thought the OP meant on the portco side. I’ve always been confused by this. What is the delineation between PE Ops roles within the PE firm vs on the portfolio side. Can either of you please explain this?
Unsure if I'm misunderstanding VP1 but there are certainly PE Ops roles that work on the portfolio side alongside portco C-suite.
The types of work can range widely depending on the most pressing & relevant need for successful exits (e.g., moic's of 3x). Sometimes it's more focused on performance initiatives on lean manufacturing, supply chain, industry 4.0. Other times it's more human capital and talent mgmt related & getting the right people into the right C-suite roles.
ESG related initiatives is another hot topic lately, such as decarbonization of a portco's footprint. Like I said, the breadth of the work PE Ops folks do can be v broad all depending on the type of PE firm you're in, its approach & level of hands-on with portco's, its focus on key themes, etc...
What about transitioning into PE investing?
