“I am out of office on maternity leave through autumn 2024. In my absence please contact (x) for assistance.”
yes i’d say early 2026. Just because you never know if you’ll feel ready at the scheduled date and you wanna give yourself some cushion!

I am on leave through X. For assistance, please contact another member of the [firm name] team working on your matter. For urgent issues, please contact [person in my group who can triage] at [email].
I had something like this. Didn’t say I was on leave. Can see arguments on both sides.
Personally, I've always left my anticipated return date out (things change).
I am out of the office on maternity leave without access to email. Please resend your message to another member of the team. If you are unsure who to contact, please reach out to [supervising partner] who will be able to direct you to support.
I said “I am out on leave with no access to emails. In my absence, please email X. My anticipated return date is fall 202X.”
Couple caveats first: 1) for all active cases, I made sure there was another attorney who had filed an Notice of appearance so that any efilings wouldn’t be missed, and so that opposing counsel theoretically had another point of contact; 2) I got other attorneys in my office to be coverage counsel for any case that I thought may have something happen during my absence and 3) my assistant had a list of ALL of my matters, including those that weren’t active, had settled, were presuit disputes, or with an administrative agency like the EEOC. The list included the name of the covering associate. That way if something came up, she could properly redirect the email.
My out of office said something to the effect of “Thank you for your email. I am out of the office on maternity leave and will not be checking my email until I return in April 2025. If this email concerns active litigation, please contact another attorney of record in the case. For all other matters, please reach out to (my assistants info) for further information.”
“I am out and will not be responding to any emails or even thinking about work. I am busy keeping a fresh new human alive. Please go bother someone else with your stupid questions.”
