Depends what you like to do
UES for me
I was with you till that last sentence VP1.
Pro
Bushwick 👌
Northwest queens. Once you move out of Manhattan you’ll realize. Cheap and diverse food, cheaper rent, easy access to Manhattan, and more culture.
Astoria, sunnyside, woodside, Jackson heights.
Not sure about pricing. I moved out of the city a few years ago. But definitely cheaper than Manhattan plus more space. And maybe a car too. Having a car in nyc is a game changer.
Rising Star
South Street Seaport. The restaurants and shops around there are so cool.
Financial District (FiDi). Great new selection of restaurants and bars (crown shy, overstory, manhatta, felice, le gratin, etc.), tin building, high quality apartments, battery park, great places to run and bike, proximity to SoHo/LES/chinatown, and literally the transportarion artery in terms of where you can go via subway.
UWS/ Lincoln center. Awesome restaraunts/subways/express that shoot anywhere down into the city and also prefer it over UES since it’s smaller and you can walk from riverside to the park in ~15 mins. Love UES but just feels huge to me
UES is huge which is why there are neighborhoods within the neighborhood 😂
Lenox Hill, Carnegie Hill, and Yorkville.
Enthusiast
Neighborhoods in Brooklyn that are not Williamsburg and Park Slope: ie Fort Greene/Clinton Hill/Carroll Gardens/Cobble Hill, etc. Although admittedly they’re not too underrated
Everyone hated me for living in Hudson Yards but if you’re not on top of Penn Station or on 32nd st good deals can be had.
