This is a points bowl, so cash back is pretty meh here.
If you want to do that path anyways, probably going into BofA setups with Platinum Honors or a bunch of Citi Custom Cash cards. Could also do the Ink Cash game but idk if that's worth it if you're going to cash out the points.
Costco card all the way. I used to play all the travel cards but with less corp travel I'll take the cash. Caveot, suburban living and wife that drives a lot. We still do a lot of restaurants and travel, so this card hits all of our main categories.
5% back on Costco gas, 4% everywhere else, 3% on travel and restaurants, 2% on all things Cisco, and 1% everywhere else. End of the year they give you a check.
What sorcery is this!
Cash back is almost always the worst card ROI wise
But that's not valuable to me if I wasn't looking to take that $2k flight to begin with. I acknowledge the pushback that im not necessarily using that cash this minute either, thats an interesting commentary in a life of excess
With cash back or points, you really need more than one card since spme are better than others in certain categories. For example, I use my Costco card for gas (4-5%), Chase Sapphire for most travel, and Hyatt & Marriott for hotel stays. Purchases like groceries vary based on promotions being offered.
You have the right thinking. I use Amex Blue Preferred for 6% back on groceries (95 annual fee worth it to me)
There isn’t. It’s all category dependent and typically rotates every month/quarter.
I understand your position about not wanting to spend money you wouldn’t otherwise spend, but you literally never need to take a commercial flight? You never stay in a hotel?
You keep more $ in your wallet by using points, than if you got your 1.5% and paid full freight for travel
Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards credit card with Preferred Rewards status for 5.25% cash back on online shopping, which so many count under this category. There’s other categories you can switch between, but I leave it on online shopping. I have 4 of these and use them for back up in categories where I don’t get 4x or 5x points back on other cards.
It also depends on the category you want. Capital One Savor gives you (I believe) 3% cash back for dining. Capital One silver quick gives you 1.5% in all categories. I got both. But honestly I’ve stopped using those and now I use my venture card for the points
Amazon Chase card.
Earn 5% on every Amazon purchase (things I'll buy anyway) then turn around and put the cash right back on the same card as a credit. It's simple earning and I don't have to spend a lot of time calculating points. You can transfer the points to your other Chase cards if you want. Just make sure when you check out on Amazon you don't pay with points(then you don't earn cash back)

This is incorrect. You cannot transfer Amazon card points to other Chase cards (e.g. Ultimate Rewards that can be transferred to partners). It is purely cash back.
The better option is to use CIC (or CFF during certain quarters) to get 5x on Amazon gift cards, effectively getting 10%+ "cash back" instead of 5%, assuming you value Chase UR at 2+ cpp.
