What is the best way to find a qualified attorney candidate for a smaller firm looking for an associate with some litigation experience?

We’ve been trying. Posted on linked in but finding people with personal connections to attorneys we knew and trusted brought the best candidates. Tight market right now

Agree, word of mouth is best. Start asking everyone you know, personally and professionally. You never know who knows the right person so just get the word out.

I've used Indeed.com with mixed results.

How big a market are you in?

Headhunters and resume mills simply don't do it. Get the word out to your network of other attorneys. You might get referrals that are more aligned with your practice style as those referring know you. And don't hesitate to ask your own associates who among their peers are attorneys they respect and think might be ready to jump

Is there a corporate way to bring up to senior leaders that an IC is causing issues across multiple teams because they are demanding and also doesn’t collaborate well? The IC gives vague “direction” then says they are too busy to clarify. They also refuse to use our project management/ collaboration tools.

I am an senior associate at a small (8-10 attorneys) immigration firm in NYC. My base is 110k and I get 30% for the cases and clients I bring in. My revenue was 370k last year and I did 250k till April this year.

My issue is, I have so much firm's work that I have hard time to work on my cases/clients. It feels like my cases are supposed to be done after hours (like after 6 pm). My work hours are crazy. I feel this is unfair and since my firm's taking 70% of my sales. Should I ask for a raise?

My boss is asking me to “reconsider” the way I approach a client… I am in charge of this annoying corporate maintenance thing that we do for a client (I.e., making board of directors meeting to comply with some regulatory reporting required. I always end up missing deadlines. How would you reply?

Comforting others:
When someone tells me bad news regarding their health, I say everything I am supposed to say (I’m sorry to hear that, I’m here for you, etc) EXCEPT “everything is going to be ok”. Because I can’t guarantee that and I really don’t know if everything is going to be ok. I was taken aback recently when a friend told me I am calloused and cold-hearted for not being able to say those words. Is she right? Should I start saying this for the purposes of providing comfort only??
