What should be the ideal time to resign if one is waiting for IIM results? Can anyone suggest if we can get Notice Period reduced and how? Timelines look cut to cut already.

I'm currently working as an electrical designer in the MEP industry. I really don't like it and I'm working towards a career change which I'm actively applying for and getting certified etc. However, it's been a slow process and I'm currently underpaid where I am so would it be wise to make a lateral move to another MEP firm simply because they offer me more money while I still look for a different job separate from this field? Or just tough it out?
