When a recruiter asks what you're currently earning, are you supposed to just tell them? I feel like giving a number will only work against me when an offer comes around.

Generally speaking, it's a bad idea to reveal your current salary. In some states it's not even legal for them to ask, by the way. It's usually better to flip the question around, and state the salary range you'd be expecting.

The numbers I give are the ones I want. What I make now puts me in a box that I don’t want to be in. If you are trying to get a salary bump, I’d steer away from what you currently make, especially. Has anyone seen this turn out well? I am curious if working with an external recruiter means it’s better to be honest.

I accepted already but may get an offer from another HR company in account management around 90-100K. Need advice

What's the best form of compensation to ask for and why?

My employers' CEO just announced that they just received $7 million from investors. He wants to use that money to offer incentives to employees that hussle and drive more revenue for the company. We're not sure what those incentives look like yet, but here are some post-announcement rumors from my co-workers:

Cash bonuses, raises, profit-sharing, company equity, 401k match, etc.

I’m interviewing for a marketing manager role at a company based in SF. I’m genuinely excited about the role and the company but we’ve yet to discuss salary. I expect to be asked at some point, but my research has given me a VERY broad range. So I’m here to do a bit more research. I’ve got 5 very relevant years of experience and will have an associate manager directly reporting to me. Are there any marketers out there who can share their salaries in similar regions and experience levels?

My husband just received a job offer on an opportunity he is really excited about. It would be great for his career and they are giving the 15% jump in base he asked for, however they won’t share what the target bonus amount would be. It’s an executive director position, so I would assume it’s a decent target bonus, but without that in writing it could honestly be a gift basket at the end of the year. Is it a red flag for them to not share this? His total comp could be less at this new job…

I was approached on LinkedIn for an early career recruiting role in DFW, TX. I don't have direct experience, but I have the university experience/connections from working in career services. This is the first time I've considered work outside of higher education. I said my salary expectations are minimum $90k and that didn't seem to be an issue. Am I asking too little, too much? How can I know I'm getting the best salary and not just settling at the low end of the range?
