Honestly speaking I think they did already. I don’t think Trump is a believer - no matter what your political views are, he’s too arrogant to believe there is a higher power than himself :)
Fair point. But when will they elect someone who openly claims to be an atheist?
Probably not. I am an outsider but I have observed that majority of Americans are incredibly religious. Coming out as an atheist will make sure that they will lose half of the country.
Ive never been to church and i still find myself thanking god. Its a weird cultural thing
I wouldn’t necessarily care about religious belief. If they are Christian, Jewish, Muslim, that doesn’t bother me. When will we elect someone who separates their religious views from how they govern? Sadly not sure....
Thanks but I think you’re over complicating the issue. At least when I asked the question I was using the term in the literal sense - someone who doesn’t believe in god / gods. What you are describing is “obsession with one’s own belief and forcing it into others” which exists among atheists and religious people and is not what I was asking about.
I think standing up for atheism is a big and bold step, probably not something anyone is going to risk moving for that job....
Agreed at least in the near term and find it incredibly sad
Atheism polls worse than any other identity/affinity/demographic.
Hence the question :)
