I’ve been working for my State Farm agency as a team member for 2 years. I am licensed in property and casualty as well as life and health, but only make $13 an hour. I technically can make bonuses but I’m not supposed to dig into a sale and I have to send it to a sales rep (I am service and retention mostly). My boss also has me running a retired agents office until a new one is chosen (its an hour away with no pay increase or mileage pay). Also, no benefits! Should I start job searching?

Do you know what people in my position would normally make?

Expeditiously!!!

I make $25 plus bonuses as an agent team member. If you have a LSA or SSA with State Farm, you should be able to get hired at any office at any time. Shop.around and find an agent that cares enough about their people to pay them well.

like

You make $25 an hour plus commission or with salary and commission you’re making $25 an hour?

Look up Account Manager positions at local brokerages and agencies. I went from an undefined job title at a SF Agency to making double as an account manager

like

You sound like you work on the servicing of policies and basic follow up with clients. No idea how much that makes. But what do you want to do? Do you want to build a book?

Then tell her that. Ask for a raise. $13 an hour is insanely low. People who have no experience can start at that.

But honestly, I suggest just finding a new opportunity somewhere else because you don't receive benefits, retirement plans, etc. Most sales jobs on the life side for mutual companies offer pensions.

I don't know how statefarm works in terms of pay or commission, but there's definitely better opportunities out there.

like

A big YES. Did you ask for a raise during your entire stay? You are doing a lot of work for a very low salary. I'd suggest you start looking for other opportunities.

I started off making $8 an hour. But I am driving an extra 2 hours a day now to run an office in a different town because she wants to prove to state farm she can run multiple offices. I thought I would get some kind of thank you or recognition and at the very least a raise to help cover the gas but nope. I’m honestly looking for a different insurance related job. Underwriter/ estimatics/ claim rep… anything tbh

But there's one thing that's been bothering me: it's hard to get feedback on my work when I'm not in the office. It would be great if there was some kind of system that let me know how my performance was being evaluated while I'm working on projects from home.
