I have never had anyone mention their religion or lack thereof on a study

depending on where you are, people might regard you as the embodiment of evil. in rare cases, you may be unsafe from harm. my agnostic friend advised me not to advertise my bel6

Most consultants are atheist - especially on the coast. Our work involves enough BS to spot other BS.

My coach is also a self proclaimed atheist but then she is a partner and can make these statements with few repercussions. I haven't even told her I am one too. OP - have you, um, come out?

And I think this is absolutely crazy... it’s as if any discussion about religion is immediately canned as “hating”

Another thing to think about is that the belief that there is no god becomes a belief by itself and breeds irrational thoughts and actions. Ideally, we know what we know, like some trans human philosophers wonder, what if we are in fact living inside a simulation, would the simulators be the “God”, religions come and go, but somehow the idea of a creator seems to be fairly common across human history. IMHO it sometimes helps to group the unknowns into a single unknown entity, purely for simplification, but to assume that entity has a conscious connection to you is facetious

no it isn't. not believing in a God is the lack of belief. period. it is not it's own belief. everything else you discuss is philosophy which has its place but is not the same as belief in the supernatural. extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence.
