When I worked at the return desk in retail, a customer once brought in cooked chicken in his own baking tray wanting a refund because it “did not taste good.” The chicken was clearly old, smelled awful, and looked disgusting. I was so stunned I looked over at my coworker, speechless. He had a receipt, and I didn’t have the energy to argue, so I processed the refund quickly just to get it over with. The worst part? Trying to wrap that smelly mess to send it back to claims. I’ll never forget it.

Once when I was waiting tables, I had a guy pay me cash. The change was 45 cents, which I didn't give back to him because like who wants that. He then asked where the change was, and when I explained that I didn't give back the loose change, he made a big stink about how dollars and cents matter and didn't leave me a tip. He was a republican staffer on capitol hill.

Back when I was getting started in the food world, I worked flipping burgers at In-n-Out. A man came in and said the burgers he had gotten weren’t right. He dumped the food on the counter and then he started throwing them back behind the counter. We gave him a refund and then his demeanor completely changed. He was calmer and he told us to have a great day as he left us to clean up the mess he made.
