Sorry but I side with the customer here 100%. You can't just assume that someone doesn't want their change, and it isn't up to you to decide what the threshold is for "enough to make a stink about." It isn't your money. So it isn't your call to make.
Maybe you should have asked. We cannot predict what kind of people we're talking to— a piece of advice from a Store Manager.
Good advice. A lot of miscommunication can be avoided if we just treat everyone the same, whether they're a politician, truck driver, swimsuit model, whatever. They all deserve and should expect the same level of respectful consideration
If I tried to shortchange a customer I'd get fired so quickly
I would flip out on this person. Kind of makes sense though with the detail about his politics. Why are some people just the worst??
Sounds about right…
Always err on the side of caution; if people don't want their change they will tell you. Can't just assume they don't want it though.
Most definitely. It's customary to tip servers and bartenders but not compulsory. So I give customers' change back to them in $1 bills (unless it's like $10 or more), then they usually hand a few of the bills back. Not always though.
Surprising that he would go crazy about that, seems like he probably makes enough $$$ that he wouldn't have to worry? Or is that just me?
I can't imagine being frustrated over this, was it just his attitude and how he treated you? Sadly a lot of folks don't think of people in retail as "actual people," they'll mistreat us without a second thought.
Wow, just wow.smh
