When you’re thinking about changing your job and suddenly you receive a very high bonus, sometimes even beyond expectations, your mindset changes instantly. Has this happened to anyone else? I’m still waiting for my bonus this year and wondering if the same thing will happen to me again. Right now my mind is not fully decided, and I’m curious how bonuses influence your career decisions in real life.

Been there. Was ready to leave, got a bonus that was way higher than expected, and suddenly I was like "maybe it's not that bad here." Stayed another year and a half. Looking back I don't regret it because the money was good and I wasn't truly unhappy, just restless. But if you're actually miserable and not just bored, no bonus is worth your mental health.

Yeah mental health more important then everything

I've stayed at a job where I'm not entirely happy and the bonus is one of the reasons to stick around. That's not surprising, I'm sure most companies know it has that effect on people. Even if I could find another position in this job market, which is not clear at all, potentially passing up a bonus would be something to be concerned about.

That’s really true

Yea bonus is a big carrot at the end of the stick. Employers know it. Been there and git a good bonus. Decent job but I regret not moving on, wasnt the right fit. Take that payday and find something else. You'd hr surprised how much $$$ corporate america has, to us ak extra 50k is big bucks but to corporate America its a rounding error

Some time we not take right decisions due to bonus

Yes bonuses definitely has been a deciding factor whether I stayed or not. My old company gave very little and it wasn’t worth it, considering the amount of hours we had to put in overtime and weren’t paid since we were salaried.

Whats your expecation this year.?

Depends on the bonus amount and the terms. How long would it take me to make that amount somewhere else? If it would take months or years, then I could suck it up and stay at a company for awhile longer unless it was truly horrible

Yeah its depend upon new company offer letter

Currently a Wealth Advisor for Citi but I honestly hate it here with a passion it’s the worst company I’ve ever worked for in my life and I’ve been in Wealth Management in the banking channel for over a decade. Series 7, Series 63, Life, CFP, ChFC, and soon to have my MBA with a focus in Mergers & Acquisitions. I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.

I am a registered sales assistant which means I have my series 7. I also have the 63 and my Life & Health license. I was a financial advisor but the role is commission only so I decided to take a role as an assistant for some time to learn etc. I really like my role, but I only make 32k a year and after taxes I only take home about 25k. I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?
