I wouldn’t recommend changing positions or employers every few years… the years of ‘job hopping’ for more pay are over… the rule of thumb for me is 3 in 5 and 4 in 10… if you haven’t found a role that’s a fit and you haven’t receive a promotion, it’s hard to believe it’s a company problem every time…
Rising Star
I’m all for annual increases and promotions… the unfortunate reality is that companies can’t magically create money they don’t have (or project to have) to increase wages in a predictable manner… they can’t magically create entire new divisions to endlessly promote their employees…
You seem to be suggesting that companies prefer turnover and ‘brain drains’ versus annual increases or promotions… it’s a very real balance that they’re faced with… maximum employment and maximum revenue per employee…
The trick is not thinking any one of those will put you ahead. Move jobs when it is strategic and benefits you to do so. Stay at a company when there is growth, and it’s achievable. Don’t tie yourself down to any one option.
Different career goals, the market changes. It’s not a one-size-fits-all for sure.
