Beyond the question of whether this is human or not (which I personally don’t think it is) …
Our economy, in MA and the US generally, benefits from undocumented immigrants. Just another way this admin could destabilize our economy. Team Wu.
Almost $1T in taxes annually, and they can’t file for refunds. Also, UIs are less likely than a natural born citizen to commit a crime (remember: they want to stay here).
They don't have a tax ID number, it is literally impossible for them to pay taxes. What you said is not true.
Also that crime thing is also not true at all, ignoring the fact that every single one is a criminal just by being here.
People are very misinformed in the comments. Undocumented immigrants is a spectrum.
There’s some that overstay visitor visas: they are with families and earn money through cash work. They are not income-taxed, but they do pay taxes with things they buy with cash. They don’t have a SSN or a ITIN, so they don’t pay income taxes AND they can’t get public assistance as well as anything that’s attached to a SSN. Bank accounts, credit cards, even health insurance is a no go. Don’t get it twisted. They want to stay here, so they’re not committing drug and violent crimes. If they do that they know they’re gone.
There’s some that are here legally on a green card and other permanent resident/work visas then their paperwork get lapsed (anyone with an immigrant parent/close family knows how the US government works slowly and stuff goes “missing” on the government’s end). My own mother came here at age 9 on a green card and became a US citizen at age 55. Let that sink in, a legal person took decades to become a US citizen and has been here since being a literal child.
Then there are people who do come here to cause chaos and damage. Keep note that it is statically shown to be way lower than actual US citizens for violent crime rates. Also again, our legal system already is built on if you are charged with a felony or misdemeanor you automatically face deportation as an immigrant and your status of documented or undocumented does not matter.
So Team Wu. After reading the article in full, she is spot on correct.
Thank you for being a voice of reason in this thread. People are really uninformed and eager to show their hate
Easy answer. Tom Homan.
I mean, I’m generally on the side of those who don’t resort to personal attacks
Oh, I'm team Michelle Wu all the way! I couldn't be prouder of an elected official
Tom Homan is absolutely turbobased, and local law enforcement is required under federal law to cooperate or be charged with obstructing an investigation.
I’ll happily support DHS when they come knocking.
I don’t think it matters; the deportations will happen with or without Wu’s help. Frankly I think she has plenty of other domestic issues to focus the city’s resources on addressing anyways.
