I was looking at Kaplan. That’s where I did my securities studies. The CFP website is where I got confused. It lists the Bachelors as one of the education requirements but also said something about other coursework. I thought it meant other designations.
In order to be eligible to sit for the CFP exam, you have to have gone through and passed all courses of an approved CFP curriculum first.
Ah yes. That’s right. But that’s not how I read the question. It was asking if they need to achieve other designations before they could sit for the CFP exam. So, I assumed they didn’t have those already, in which case they need to complete a CFP curriculum
You need to take and pass 6 courses and a capstone thru an approved cfp provider. I recently became a cfp and will give u what (in my opinion) is the shortest path Take the pre classes at Bryant u. They are all online and the cheapest. To be honest, the material is dated and not the best but you can breeze thru and the test at the end of each chapter is non proctored and can be taken until you pass. I breezed thru a module a week in most cases. Where you want to get serious is with your review provider I chose Brett Danko and passsd om the first try. You need to allocate 150-350 hours for studying the review material depending on how you test etc.
No.
You need to have a minimum of a Bachelors degree to use the designation (after passing the exam)
Thank you. So I have a BA. I am good to enroll in a study program and sign up for the November test date?
I do not know why you would not be able to enroll, but I would speak to an advisor with the program so you are fully aware of the guidelines. Which provider are you looking at? Have you gone to the cfp.net website?
There are a series of modules that you must pass within the CFP curriculum. Are you working full time? How many hours per week do you have to read / study?
I work full time. I’ve been in the business 8 years. I’ve got a young family so time is limited. I’m hoping to carve out an hour a day for study.
Thank you for the information! I would rather have a realistic expectation rather than get excited and learn the hard way that it’s not happening like I thought. I really appreciate it!
No
While the ChFC isn’t required at all, it is only 2 additional courses in addition to the 6 you are required to complete for the CFP. Basically the same information so great idea to complete the same year while it’s fresh on your mind. The CLU is only 3 additional courses after doing CFP too.
