I think this is unfortunately a common personality type. Either they are the martyr type (they sacrifice themselves thinking it's for others' benefit) or they are peace makers who are genuinely more concerned about others' well-being. Either way, these people do tend to burn out so I think it's important to encourage them to take time off.
The constant giving catches up with them fast. Sometimes they need someone else to say it is okay to pause, because they rarely say it to themselves.
Yea I agree with manager1, it's a personality type. They'll do the same in their personal lives. They need encouragement from friends and colleagues to remind them to look after themselves.
the hardest part is they will never ask for help.
Because people who care about other people tend to forget to care about themselves. They’re too busy, putting other people‘s needs, and wants above their own that they forget to care for themselves entirely.
I feel this deeply. It is so easy to slip into that habit when you are the one holding everything together. But burnout does not help anyone in the long run.
