I have some good ex colleagues who moved over there and also looked up on LinkedIn and see lots of seemingly smart and accomplished people in their D&A team in the UK.
I'll ask my ex colleagues too, but wanted to see if people here have any opinion or information on this too.
TIA

I think the real issue in most such cases is not “Indian management” but the project or account structure itself.
Many times the project is simply not well structured, timelines are extremely tight (often because of aggressive sales commitments), and managers struggle to plan proper backups during critical phases like production deployments.
From my own experience — 8+ years in IT — I can honestly say that my leave has never been outright rejected, whether it was an emergency or a well-planned leave, even around production timelines.
Yes, managers have sometimes requested postponing leave during major production releases, which is completely understandable. In unavoidable situations of leave, they asked for on-call support, but never actually denied the leave.
So the problem usually comes down to a few practical things:
• When the leave is taken
• The project’s delivery schedule
• Whether the account is structured and planned properly
• And, of course, the professionalism of the manager
Blaming “Indian management” as a whole is a bit convenient. In reality, most managers are just trying to balance delivery commitments and team availability.
If a project is chaotic, understaffed, and running on unrealistic timelines, even the best leave policy will look “sick.”
Otherwise, leave approvals are rarely the dramatic battle they are often portrayed to be.

Just take a sick leave when you need it. Dont ask. Say wasnt feeling well couldnt help. Most of the people in my team do it. Other time mention some random emergency.

Yes.. That is always..
But openly asking leaves with clear travel plan management feel like it's crime.. Make noise..
😂😂😂
Rest we manage as always...
When employee doesn’t take leaves, the management will pay basic pay as part of leave encashment and not full salary
So leave encashment in a way is a loss to employee as full value is not given.
Other reason is that the manager is responsible for the project. An employee on leave will make manager stressed due to billing or non delivery of deliverables.
Avoid providing call support during leaves even during prod support. You’re here to make money and not do favours.

Right..
Agree with you....
