I tried that too and it’s tough. There are so many applicants that they will always choose someone with relevant experience. So I went back to applying for the jobs I have done before.

You don’t list this experience (or you spin it as basic customer service experience) and you take your degrees off your resume

It’s hard to get a retail job with lots of experience. Have you looked into contract based work/doing your own thing ? I am currently still in my career and doing things on the side uses the skills I gained in my career.
I am in the same boat. I have used ChatGPT to help me rewrite my resume to cater to retail and customer service jobs. Make sure you have some keywords for those positions in your resume.
