I am not surprised that's what its like at D.
Mean :(
As soon as clients start asking, are able to grep, and have the data for, anything beyond basic descriptive metrics using population data I'll break out my probability, statistics, and sensitivity analysis. Hell, I'd love to use some RSM, but it'll blow their damn minds and I can only work with data that is so sparse
Le Sigh ... As it is they are paying me to use tools and analytical thinking methods that they don't have, to do things I consider HS level math but they look at me like I'm Einstein. I wish it weren't true but they really do lack basic thought processes or ability to link two cells together in an Excel formula. OH GOD THE HAND TYPED NUMBERS!! THEY CRUSH MY SOOOOUL!!!!!
😫
Classic analyst: I can run a cool regression, why don’t people want that more often? Maybe because solving your problem doesn’t require that. Also statistical rigor is not a substitute for figuring out what needs to be done. And most times that can be accomplished using excel and basic techniques. A sharper sword isn’t useful if you don’t know which direction to swing it in. The real value of consulting comes from setting the direction
Oh see now THAT is a whole other annoying problem. You're falling victim to our own sales teams verbal buzz word vomit. We sold shiny and now the client wants shiny on everything 😭
Agreed
Even if you don't have anything analytically rigorous, if you are doing anything with more than a few steps or that needs to be repeatable, you should be scripting it. It can create the deliverable in excel, but that doesn't mean you need to work in it.
DS1 gets it
