Working in recruitment has given me a front-row seat to how compensation evolves over time. I’ve seen growth in my own earnings, but I’m interested to hear from others, which pay milestone genuinely improved your quality of life, not just on paper?

$60k. That was the number where I stopped living paycheck to paycheck and actually had money left over at the end of the month. That was a long time ago and isn't much in hindsight, but that first jump from "surviving" to "breathing room" was life changing for me when I was just starting out.

That “breathing room” shift you described really resonates. It’s interesting how the first salary that creates stability often matters more than chasing bigger numbers later. For you, what changed the most once that pressure lifted?

When I hit $65k, I finally felt like I could breathe. Six figures was always the goal, of course — but that moment when I could make it between paychecks without stress? That was a huge milestone for me.

That point about stress between paychecks is key. It highlights how compensation is often more about day-to-day peace of mind than headline figures. Do you think that sense of stability influenced how you approached your work or career choices afterward?

Just got another rejection... Is exiting to FAANG or MB really this hard? Trying to go tech.. or mbb, but not getting anywhere. I have 2 masters (mba, ms) from top schools, been in consulting for over 10 years, I am confident that I know my stuff well..but still I keep getting rejected. Interviewed with Google, Amazon, Cisco, McKinsey, and a few others and every-time there is something that is not a match... are the hiring managers looking for like 100% match? That will never happen!!!

Starting a new mobile app build (greenfield project) - target to start is iOS, but may expand to Android in ~2 years time and we will need a web experience (though not necessarily the same set of functionality).

What mobile frameworks are you using, and are you finding them productive? Team is considering React Native and Flutter, and I'm just looking to hear what's working for you / what you wished you'd done differently.

Anyone else feel discourage ? I thought my interview went amazing and today I received the standard email rejection. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen those emails but this one hurt more than the others. I sat in my car and just cried. Hiding from my family, so they wouldn’t feel bad with me. Picked myself up, gave a few encouraging words to myself in the mirror and put my fake face on for my family. Can anyone else relate ?

I have a question for the sales managers out there.

What motivated you to pursue a career change from front line sales to managing a team of sales professionals?

I ask, because as I look to the future I am wondering if just staying on the front lines will be more lucrative then entering management.
