Would you ever want to work with your husband? There’s an opening on an adjacent team to mine, and my husband is looking to apply. It’s not the same team at least so wouldn’t be any conflict there, but just not sure what the pros and cons would be in this situation.

I would love the option to carpool together! Plus, not being on the same team, so there isn’t too much mixing of work and home life.

Oooo carpooling would be a bonus.

I’ve seen couples make it work fine as long as they set clear boundaries between work and home. It can be nice having someone who really understands your day-to-day. I would do it for sure!

Boundaries would definitely be important!

Noo never! As much as I adore my partner, I think it is so healthy to have your own separate lives as well as your together lives. Being with each other every day in a professional and personal environment is a lot for any relationship. I enjoy being able to get home and update them on my work day and hearing their stories also.

That’s a good point. It is nice to have a little separation so we have something to connect over at the end of the day.

How close are the teams? Do you roll up to the same executive? It can create some concentration risk for you two if you both work in the same line of business and, for example, that business has to cut bonus, pay, or FTE meaningfully across the org.

If you work in different business lines, for different companies, or in different industries it can help one of you have better job security while the other’s industry, company, or team is going through tough times.

We would be same department but you would have to go up 4-5 levels before we had a common senior leader. Having all our eggs in one basket definitely is a concern.
