WWYD? Have a case scheduled for short trial when I am 35w preg. I am currently the lead attorney (I am a partner now with associates under me). The pregnancy is high risk. I am debating (1) bringing on another partner to help but staying in largely the lead role, (2) bringing on another partner to play the lead role and I take a background role, or (3) trying to get out of the trial entirely. I am very concerned about stress esp bc of the high risk condition which can lead to preterm delivery

I would certainly try to transition to the background, and assist as needed but I wouldn’t want the stress of trial and the stress of the pregnancy at the same time. Praying everything goes well!!

As someone who had a trial scheduled during third tri with a very complicated pregnancy that resulted in a 37 week c section, I say do the option that protects you and baby best, whichever that may be, even if it means stepping back completely from the trial. That is what I did and I didn’t regret it - the week trial was set to start I ended up in the hospital. We have no control over what may happen and when and NOTHING comes before our health and baby’s health. Don’t let anyone make you feel guilty for putting yourself first! Best of luck with delivery & baby 💗

I read to "high risk" and stopped. You and your baby's health come first. Request an extension based upon serious health issues and put another partner in charge.

This. Full stop.

If you are very concerned (which makes sense) number 1 is not a viable option. Either background role or passing it off is the best path. Do you have associates who are very involved in the case? Do you trust them? If so, I’d think you could get out of it entirely, rely on your staff to support the partner that steps in.

Ask Court to reschedule the trial date. I have seen counsel request stays in cases due to health issues.

I would talk to your firm and the client about the best way to handle. If you’re the one with the most knowledge and client wants you, the trial will have to wait. 😊

I’d do option 2 or 3. I was high risk too and ended up having to deliver unexpectedly at 35 weeks

like

I was high risk and had a c-section at 34 weeks. I was on bed rest for the month before that. You should make sure you’re redundant for this.

You need to be prepared for early delivery or complications that make it impossible for you to attend. I would probably opt for (2).

Hello my fellow shoal of fish. I am seeking recommendations for a lounge chair in my office. I currently have the adjustable stand desk and a relatively comfortable office chair (not when reclining) but the other half of my office is empty. Im putting in a 55” tv and need a recliner, lounge chair, or something of the sorts to put in front of the tv. Something where i can put my feet up. Conference calls are such a drag when i have to sit at my desk.
