How soon do most companies let you know if you're not proceeding to the next round of interviews? Do they let you know within the day, a day after, or a week usually?

I received a take home case study for a strategic finance position. They gave me historical statements for the last 3 years (quarterly) and asked for insights/observations and opportunities/trends. What should I be observing here? I’m used to just modeling exams but I’m not sure how to proceed here. They didn’t give industry but this looks like retail store financials when they are a software company....

I’m applying to jobs in a high COL area and am currently living in a low COL area. I plan to stay in the low COL area and work remotely until offices open back up which won’t happen this year. As I’m interviewing and negotiating salary, I want to be reasonable and fair. Should I negotiate 2 salaries, a lower salary for the time i work remotely in a low COL area and then a higher salary for when I relocate to the high COL area?

What does it mean when a recruiter tells you that you wouldn’t be competitive for the New York City market and that your best chance is to stay in your current city? I’m born and raised NY and was looking to move back 🫤

I am terrible at withholding salary information from recruiters. Yesterday a recruiter gave the line “I would hate for us to get to the end of the interview process only for it to turn out that we couldn’t give the salary you would need” so I panicked and threw out a number that was thirty percent higher than my current pay. He then told me the salary range which was way higher! Do you really just firmly repeat “I need to learn more about the team and benefits before I can assign a number?”

Advice, please!A local, well established firm is seeking me out. I was upfront that I was not looking but because he was persistent and this could be something I’m interested in for the future, I had a sit down with him. At the end, he said the ball was in my court and he would love for me to go through a formal interview. The firm seems great, but my current position is 100% remote and fits perfectly into my schedule. Do I interview even though I wouldn’t consider changing until next year?!

Anywho, I was wondering why the interviewer came in with such a negative tone.. and it just hit me...AGEISM!! I'm not quite 40 but the more I think about it, that's definitely what it was. Do thank you notes even help? I usually thank them at the end of the interview so it seems a bit too extra to send another email.
