This data has been out for too long to justify the lack of action. No school aged kid NEEDS social media. They just don’t. Get rid of it for those 16 and under with time limits until age 18. I guess we need to keep giving even more money to the big techies who consistently put our kids in danger bc they just do not care.
Tik Tok and other social media sites have their own internal data, which they try to keep hidden bc of the damming results.
Like I’ve said before, we are the most irresponsible caretakers of our kids -nationally that is.
I completely agree with you! Though I do not want the government in my life, I think as you said we're probably the worst about policing our children that a law needs to go in but no child should have any device before age 18, smart or otherwise. I think they need to bring back flip phones. I teach psych and I tell them this all the time
I think we are turning a corner in parenting. I teach integrated preschool. This year, I have students who do not use devices at all! Their parents read actual books to them and they know how to play with toys! Their parents are involved, interested, and they are teaching their kids to play card games, board games, and to play outside. They also accept the word “no”, are polite, and have basic skills again! It has been at least 8 years since I have had a class like this. I think parents are getting the message that screen time is detrimental and real experiences are valuable. It is amazing! I hope it continues to trend this way..
Great idea! Yes, broadcast it.
Agree that awareness, education, and outreach should be at the top. Disagree that legislation should be the step. Give the tools to the parents who want to limit screen time or find a healthy way to do it. Working with and not against gets more of a response in my experience.
Part of the problem is too many parents grew up with their phones - they don’t seem to see the damage done to their kids. Good luck changing it.🙁
I totally agree that screens and social media is bad for kids, but I can’t get behind legislation. I feel strongly that it’s a parents decision on what their kids do. I don’t agree with the parents that let their kids rot their brains on tech all day every day, but it feels like none of my business. I’d actually rather the government take a giant step back from legislating my entire life.
But when their kids are committing suicide and parents are totally unaware until after the fact, when they learn AI bot encouraged them to die by suicide, even writing the suicide note for the teen. Govt needs to step in. These techies know what they’re doing. Legislate!
This is not new data. It’s been out for over 2 years. How long do we wait before we focus on the younger generation?
Seems like ppl on this site are …what do I get, how does it help me, how do I get more, me me me me me me me
