Home. 120k is enough for me
Fair Enough! Not having to commute especially if you live a long distance is real headache saver
240k all day. Until my kids are out of the house.
Yes, this. As much as I absolutely adore my kids, I would go insane without getting time away from them.
Anyone choosing the remote job is either in a different tax bracket than myself or has far fewer financial obligations. I'd live at work if I had to to double my salary. Daycare isn't cheap.
Daycare is an absolute wallet killer right now. The national average for full-time infant or toddler care is hovering around $17,000–$20,000 a year (sometimes more depending on where you live, like way higher in places like California or D.C.), and that's just for one kid. Add in diapers, formula, maybe after-school stuff later... it adds up fast. Understandable you'd wanna grind in office for the bigger paycheck.
I am going for the fully remote role every single time. I really value work-life balance and working from home provides that in a way working in the office can't. I would much rather take less of a salary and be fully remote.
Prioritizing fully remote every time makes complete sense if work life balance is your non negotiable. I've heard the same from a ton of people lately: the commute, office politics, forced small talk, all that stuff just drains energy in ways that no amount of extra cash can fix. Being able to step away for a quick workout, handle family stuff without guilt, or just wear whatever the hell you want? That's priceless for mental health and actual productivity.
That’s an interesting debate! I’d lean towards the remote job for better work life balance. But the high salary is tempting too!
