A new hire just gave me a gift as a welcome gesture, and while I appreciate the thought, I want to be sure I’m following best practices. In your experience, how do you balance graciously accepting or politely declining gifts to avoid any appearance of favoritism or ethical concerns? I want to maintain a professional environment while acknowledging their goodwill appropriately.

It’s great that you want to handle this thoughtfully. Generally, it’s best to check your company’s gift policy first, a lot of organizations have clear guidelines about what’s acceptable. If the policies are vague, I usually lean toward politely thanking the employee but not accepting gifts that might be seen as influencing decisions or creating favoritism. Sometimes acknowledging the gesture with a note or verbal thanks without keeping the gift helps maintain professionalism while still showing appreciation.

That was really sweet of them. I would probably give it back though. Even if it's something homemade or sentimental, it could still be perceived as garnering favor, or they could come back to you and expect some sort of reciprocity in the future. It's not worth putting yourself in that position.

agreed you never want them to use it against you

What was the gift? I would probably give it back. If anything, I'd expect to receive a gift as a new hire! haha

Hi folks, have anyone got job offer from Canada by applying from India? If so can anyone guide how to crack interview while applying from India?

Received an offer from the DOJ for a 2 year contract, doing work which seems more interesting/engaging than what I’m doing right now (insurance defence) - but for just over 9% less than I’m currently making, and the partner track has been outlined for me at my firm..feel like it’s not worth trading higher long term earning potential for contract + pay cut just because the work is more engaging..but on the other hand, ID is starting to bore me..thoughts/refs to anyone at DOJ would be appreciated

Hi All,
During Bosch HR round, I've conveyed my salary expectations. The HR for once, didn't argue the figure quoted. Instead just said, that the offer would be released post approval from business head.

Now, I've filled in firststeps portal details as well. When should I expect the offer to be released? And how frequently should i follow up with the recruiter?
Also, does not countering my demands of requisite salary mean that they'll provide the figure I've asked for?. Kindly suggest.
