It’s still the same amount of time to cover the curriculum. I like my summers off.
It’s still a time crunch though. It makes absolutely no sense to argue for teachers and families to have a year round schedule because it’s too hard to fit in the entire curriculum when you have the same curriculum and number of days to teach it. No one wants to teach now. Remove the one selling point, summers off, and the teacher crisis gets even worse. I cut the superfluous from the curriculum and feel no guilt given the folks creating the pacing guide/curriculum haven’t been in the classroom for over a decade or two.
On some level it might be better (no summers off=no summer packets and reading to keep minds sharp before fall) but I think families would push back for the summer vacation trips/camps and we know kids won’t be cool with it. Do you think maybe 1/2 day Wednesdays without Feb and April vacation could help? Like one of the Wednesdays that’s when staff meetings would be so no late nights and that gains two weeks of school
My kids also had late start Wednesdays when they were in school. That's when the teachers did their PLCs.
There are districts here that do 9 weeks on, 2 weeks off with 7 ish weeks off in the summer. I don’t know many teachers in the lower grades that like it. Just as they’re getting in the swing of things they get 2 weeks off then have to start over.
The fact is, working is hard. Many professions feel burn out. You either find a way to recharge or find another company/district/profession.

Just wondered.
I am a proponent of a 4-day week. Even if we do M,T,Th,F. I feel like this will at least give us a break. Wednesday would be a day off for everyone, teachers included. Most districts already go extra time each day, so there should not be any problem. The burnout has become much more intense since COVID-19, and I am seriously considering a different profession.

Some say it doesn’t help grades, but I like the idea. I would want either Mondays or Fridays off, though. 😁
Agreed, school should be year round with frequent breaks./
