After revising my resume countless times, I reached a point where further tweaks felt like procrastination disguised as improvement. But then if I fire off an application without that attention to detail and don’t hear back I beat myself up over it. How do you know when your resume is ready to send? Like what’s the indicator it’s good enough.

I revise it a little bit for each application, especially the 'About' summary at the top. Mostly to mirror some JD language

I have a "souped-up" main resume. From there, I pull the key bits that match the job description to quickly prepare a custom resume. I only worry about the main resume which I refresh every once in a while for no particular reason.

You know your resume is good enough already if you're hitting 80% of what they're asking for. Send it and forget about it.

Good luck!

You must tweak if you want the target role you are chasing for. If having a new girl or boy friend is easy for you, why are you crying at tweaking your own CV.

One of my junior associates recently resigned and I've been trying to make an exit myself for several months now. The job market has been really competitive but I am getting closer to getting a new job and moving on. The firm culture isn't great and work-life balance is non existent. My physical and mental health have been suffering, so I really don't think I could stay. How did you avoid the guilt trips from Partners/Senior staff trying to get you to stay?

Yesterday my younger brother called me looking for good hidden swimming spots in the mountains. He was up there with a bunch of friends and their original plans had fallen apart hard. And I go much more often than he does.

I told him I had map pins that are EXACTLY what you need for these hard to find places. I can send them in 10 mins when I get home.

Reply? Forget it, I'm all set.

Yep, 10 mins is too long. Here I was expecting "Wow! That's fantastic!" How silly of me.

Additional Posts in Job Hunting in Tech

What is the best way to begin a transition from a help desk job to an actual career path in IT? I’m getting close to being at my current job for a year, however I have a lot of experience in the tech field, which is what landed me this job without any actual IT background. I definitely feel over qualified and under paid in the position I am in now, and looking for the next step towards an IT career. Any advice would not fall on deaf ears. TIA

Hi everyone, a question to the tech industry at large.

Why are people so hesitant to hire disabled candidates?

I am a visually impaired practitioner in South Africa, with 7 years of experience, and as soon as recruiters or business owners hear/read that I'm disabled, the conversation gets awkward and I never hear from them again.

Looking for some advice on how to branch off into a job in tech. I’m a Mechanical engineer interested in working in a big tech company. Career advice?

I'm a relatively junior data engineer (2yoe), the only other engineer (senior) that trained me left about a 6 months ago and I negotiated a nice raise for the extra responsibilities.

My performance reviews have been stellar, but my manager is starting to look to hire a senior to help me deliver projects as we do lack capacity right now.

I feel like I might be missing an opportunity to ask for a promotion and hire a junior instead.

Any opinions/tips?

Any ideas for mid-level roles that are a mix of business-facing and technical and bring value to companies but are not typically present in smaller companies?

I am trying to create a new role that suits my background at my dream company. It is a smaller company, but is rapidly growing and has the capability to create new roles.

I am looking to switch jobs in the next 6 months so I want to use this time to prepare but not sure where to start? Any guidance on what to prepare etc? Like What skills are must have,
What skills are good to have, etc

I want to know how UBS (UK) reach out to you for interview purposes I mean through a phone call or over the email.

Considering a Product Owner role. Any best practices of what questions to ask during an interview? First phase deals with a virtual Teams interview with the recruiter and her manager on Tuesday. Excited since this is a hop from a Product Analyst role and entails an offer of over $30,000 from what I'm getting now! This would be a permanent full-time compared to my current contractor role that ends in March.

Asking advice from a recruiter: I’ve been recently laid off :( This week I took some time to reflect, talk to friends and family. I want to be more thoughtful on my next move and although interviewing right away would be logical I feel I want to take a break and some time for myself. Take a month or two off working and use that time to plan thoughtfully on my next move. Would having that gap in my resume be an issue when I go back to the job market?
