Any breast cancer survivors out there in consulting land? I’m 44, 2ish years out from dx, back full-time for ~15 months , attempting to exercise, eat well, and rule the world on the road.

I was stage III at ydiagnosis, did the entire course - chemo, radiation, bi-lateral mastectomy. Then autologous (DIEP flap) reconstruction. Then complications and subsequent infections which took 2 years to overcome. After 4 years of treatment + infection hell (and working full time through 3 of those years), I went back to work full time. Was exhausted the first year. Struggled through the next two and wondered why I just did not have the energy/stamina. Then I had a couple of docs say, “expect your body to take as long to recover as it was sick.“. Thought that sounded nuts but it proved to be true. Four years out and I am just now feeling like my old self.

You can do this, but give yourself time and room, and make sure a few key people understand you are not 100%. I was surprised by the number of leaders in my firm who had been through something similar – either themselves or with close family members. They get it.

Thanks! I feel like I’m just barely on the cusp of seeing normal on the horizon— good to know.

I also found a bunch of people with similar situations, but now that I’m not in active treatment there’s not much to say.

A1 did you have chemo fog?

I forget things at work and it’s maddening. Not huge things but I feel like an invalid at times. It does not help me be the boss lady.

Dr. Disa at Memorial Sloan Kettering in NYC is incredible. I have had multiple doctors (primary care, obgyn, and dermatologist ) be so confused when I told them I had a double mastectomy after just looking at me because they literally could not tell at first glance. He’s a damn artist!

I had chemo brain and it was probably the hardest thing I dealt with through it all - so frustrating feeling like i lost some of my brain power & quick thinking. It added a lot of stress when I was coming back to work because i felt like i couldn’t keep up like I used to. The old brain eventually came back though.

Thanks for sharing. I truly admire y'all. I'm not a cancer survivor, but I'm looking for breast reconstruction surgeon in NYC. How did you pick yours?

For those of you who have been formally given the title of “senior paralegal” what are the qualifications for that title at your firm? Does your firm do promotions from paralegal to senior paralegal? At my firm we are all simply just “paralegal” (we all fully handle our own dockets, no assistants) and I would like to help develop a concrete career track for paralegal to senior paralegal.

Did any of you transition from a non-core coding role like Risk consulting/operational audit to a core/partially more coding role like Business Intelligence/Data Science etc.,?
