Any thoughts on quitting public accounting job, to study couple of months for CPA? Unfortunately in a new job, so going on unpaid leave is not option yet.

How much experience do you have? If you are entry level, even with a CPA it might be difficult to find another good entry level job

Nice, I would think you’re probably fine then.

I actually just left my firm for private so I can avoid this upcoming busy season and keep studying. Was supposed to get senior promo next month but w the years of experience and CPA, I think I’ll be in good shape.

That said, finding a new job shouldn’t be too difficult, but how long do you think you can afford having no income?

I recommend studying while working before you have too much work naturally. Sleep work and study and you'll get it done unless you have boundary issues with work, I did the whole quit and come back. It was finally great to have a CPA but it was bittersweet as companies don't care about it as much until you're manager and above (that's where the real opportunities start to come).

Thanks, I realize I should have gone on leave instead.

Is your firm treating 12/26 and 12/27 as firm holiday since the 24th and the 25th are during the weekend this year? Of course client demands would dictate whether people will be working, but curious what the official policy is. For what it’s worth, my firm treated the day after thanksgiving as holiday and I didn’t have to work for the whole day.

Feel like audit scheduling is always done on a knifes edge in that the timeline and staff schedules are enough so that if everyone works 60 hour weeks and no issues are identified then it can be filed on time. But even small things that increase the work can wildly throw off the schedule and cause hours to skyrocket for the staff on the job. No real point here, just ranting.
