I’m in the boys club at a Fortune 15. I am the only woman in a team of 22 tech VPs under an SVP. I’ve also always been the only female in undergrad, grad school, and most of my career. As a colored woman, I’ve always made it a point to always know more than any man in my teams. I also don’t let anyone talk over me or interrupt me. But most of all, I have no shame in calling other people’s bullshit in front of them or in front of leadership. Perhaps these have been the reason why I’ve always been respected by men.

For context, I am a millennial.

Millennial here too, and my biggest issue is that I'm an HR department of one and never really get asked or utilized in my skills unless they ask me. If I start digging and asking questions or suggestions, I get shut down a lot.

Wow this is my life. So many times. Ugh.however my female boss was laid off and I did not enjoy working with her. Now I’ve been on my own for 6 months and a new boss is starting- male but mostly sales background. I just talked to him for the first time today and asked if he had any goals we could work together on. Also the first team meeting with copy to me but not inviting me. I replied back I would like to be in the meeting virtually since I’m also learning. I’m trying to be more assertive and team oriented.

To add-im an HR department of one, with no strategic integration between the management team and me. I only get asked to be involved or do something AFTER everyone already talked about it. So I'm always the last to know the "tea" which really undermines me to everyone in the company of 40 people.
