I just accepted an offer in s&c utility space but I really would like to transfer to AFS in the future. I have a lot of experience in the utility space but afs is my interest area. I have ISOs and a tender offer to buy my shares. There's an option for a cashless exercise, and an option for a cash exercise. Given I hold no shares yet and I don't want to put existing cash in, would a cash exercise and an immediate sell in the offer be tax-identical to the equivalent cashless exercise? Or are there tax reasons to pick one over other?
