A typical approach for people being put on a PIP. Delays and frustrates the process but to be fair putting someone on a PIP is likely to send them down a mental health/stress inducing spiral.

I would assume it's valid, but it doesn't matter if they are lying or not. A PIP means you've given up, and I would suspect the relationship/fit probably wasn't great from the start.

Happens a lot. In my experience, they’re using this time to seek other employment. Regardless of suspicions, still have to follow the law and go through all the steps as you normally would. In the end, they do have rights, and you’re doing the right thing.

Happens a lot. In my experience, they’re using this time to seek other employment. Regardless of suspicions, still have to follow the law and go through all the steps as you normally would. In the end, they do have rights, and you’re doing the right thing.
