Hey all, having issues with interviewing this year. I’ve been passed over every opportunity I really want and I’m unsure how to regroup and move forward. I’m really trying to break into method development roles and I haven’t had the opportunity to do so with my analytical experience. A lot of my HPLC and LCMS experience is with already established methods. Any tips?

Maybe employers find your other experiences attractive enough to consider you but when it really comes down to it, it might not be enough to offset your lack of experience in research or method development.

I’ve only ever applied in California.

Have you practiced your interviewing with a trusted friend or mentor? Perhaps it’s the way you’re responding to questions, as well as what you’re answering the questions with.

Unfortunately I have no mentor and a lot of my trusted peers are not in STEM. I am having issues finding support like that.

I suggest you try reaching out to people in Linkedin who work in the field you are interested in. Not everyone will have time to help you but you're bound to find someone who can provide some tips or assist you in some way. Wish you the best of luck!

I struggled with the same thing last year. From what I can see, it looks like you’re applying in California? I currently work at a pharma start up called Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals. They have a Pasadena branch and also a San Diego branch. Unfortunately the group I belong to, Analytical Development is based in Madison, Wisconsin..but I highly recommend looking into them still!! Madison is absolutely beautiful and Arrowhead is a fantastic company to look into.

Ah how interesting, I currently work in San Diego and have seen some of their postings this year! I will give it a look. Thank you!
