What guides and resources do you use to find attractions that are off the beaten trail?

I’m currently in the process of being converted from contractor to permanent. In my initial conversations I was under the impression that I was in a different pay grade and asked for a salary 25k higher than the max allotted for my position. As S3 is also internally called as AM level, how much salary hike can i expect? I got EC as rating this year and have 5 years of experience.
