Anyone know how compensation varies between different segments of commercial underwriting? I’ve heard that moving from smaller accounts to mid-market or larger clients comes with a noticeable salary bump, but it’s tough to tell from public job postings since most don’t specify the book size or account tier. If you're in underwriting, would you be open to sharing what kind of accounts you handle and whether that’s reflected in your pay? Trying to get a realistic picture before making a move.

I made the move from small commercial to mid-market last year, and there was a noticeable bump—about 10–15%. The complexity of accounts and expectations are definitely higher, but so is the compensation. Titles don’t always reflect that, though, so negotiating matters. Happy to DM more details if helpful!

I went from small commercial at 72K to middle market starting at 95K, the biggest pay bump though came from the bonus because small commercials bonuses were way less and followed the companies performance while middle market was based on my performance (and company) but think going from maybe 5% bonus if we were lucky to jumping to 20%. Responsibility wise it is absolutely harder work though.

I’m struggling. I left an agency I liked last year due to growth limitations and since then I’ve worked at 2 different agencies and can’t seem to find my footing. The first one seemed like a good fit at first but then it turned out to not be the best place for me so I left. At my current agency I feel super undervalued. I’m always raising my hand and offering to help where I can and no matter what I do, I don’t feel utilized or valued or part of the team. It’s really taken a toll on my confidence

How far do you require depts be with negotiating commercial contract terms before your legal review? I’m talking routine low value and risk contracts (e.g., vendor services), where Legal terms won’t kill the deal. My clients blindly forward contracts. I say “are you sure this term is ok?” And often get “no.” They’re surprised because they never read them. Checking the temp to see what others experience, what might be normal. I feel contract training in my clients’ future...

GTM moving back into consulting is a good idea in theory, but it’s like a train wreck happening in slow motion.

Sure feels like they are pushing to stand up a traditional CRE network for product sales inside of consulting … that won’t work in a service business. Some of us have seen this movie before - different theatre.

Watch how this plays out over next 6 months.

Interesting subscription based cost model but basically pushing interactive, team based approach to long term health care with a good blend of tech and analytics built in.
