Bain & Company Hello, I received an offer as a Senior Practice Manager at Bain. The profit sharing range is 0-12% in the offer letter. Is it typical to receive the midpoint (6%)? Also, what do the annual salary increases typically look like? Any insights are much appreciated. Bain & Company Boston Consulting Group McKinsey & Company

Sell immediately. Free money
I was in it at 10% since I joined, until about 5 years ago. I sold them all and it bought me 2 houses so it was great for me. Unfortunately the share price is now so volatile it's too risky, the discount can be wiped out in a few days.

I did it once, Julie sold just after 'we' bought and the price fell 10% and the resulting 5% discount for 10% of my salary wasn't worth the effort of selling and converting for what worked out as a 0.5% better off.
Much easier to just finish 0.5% earlier each day.
I started earlier last year. I’ve paid in over 600 and can get 200 back. Don’t do it
Pro
Do you mean you bought in last time? Like do you own shares? It sounded like you had joined after the last buy period.
As discussed, you should sell on the day they buy the shares to avoid risk
The people who made money from shares are those who were given RSUs in the past. I don't want to sacrifice my own money to buy bloody shares in my employer; I expect to be given equity.
Pro
People here don’t understand what ‘sell on the day they buy’ means.
Opted out for first time in 10 years. It used to be worth it to hold but now it’s too volatile for me. I would rather spread the risk and buy into something else with the money.

Something with a ~7.5% risk free return every 6 months
Prefer to use the cash for my own purposes, whether that’s day to day or to invest in better options than our pitiful stock performance
@SM2, the value of the 15% discount actually gets recorded as additional income and so it’s taxed at income. If you sell on the day, there’s zero-to-negligible capital gains (not enough that you’d be taxed given your capital gains annual allowance).
Because your monthly contribution is locked up for between 1-6 months, your annualised rate of return works out to around +110% (IRR model). I have a comment further down explaining in more detail.
Anyone who tells me they don’t do the ESPP and immediately sell, I assume they’re stupid. If you do the maths, the effective ARR works out to around 110%.
Can someone else please chip in? There didn’t really seem like a conclusion to who’s right. Im interested in understanding whos approach is accurate
