Applied for a hotel role and they asked if I’d be open to covering other departments if needed. Sounds flexible but also a bit vague. Would you see that as a positive or a risk?

I would actually like that role that way you get to learn, learn all the roles in the hotel industry and you wouldn’t always be doing the same thing as well as being a candidate for promotions! I would definitely try it out and see what it’s all about!

Not a lot of people wanna learn unfortunately, ruins it for everyone else

Risk. Salaries aren’t the same across departments. May want to look into whether or not that would affect your salary in each switch…

That’s true!

That's a little shady. As others have posted, some departments get paid more/less than others.

Most places are a bit shady though!

Here’s the thing you gotta keep in mind…if you have a guest that has a question, they want the answer to that question or if they have a need, they want the first employee they find to be able to fulfill that need or answer their question. Your company wants to hire someone who isn’t going to say “that’s not my department”, they want someone who is willing to do whatever the guest need, even if it’s not your *job*

Yes very true

My wife got a job that requires us to relocate to San Diego. We have never lived there and know little about the city. We are planning to rent. We stayed in a hotel in little Italy and really loved the vibe there, but it’s too expensive for us. Are there other neighborhoods with similar vibes - restaurants, bars, lively, good for walking, clean, safe, young, diverse and accessible that are more affordable? Please share recommendations. How much should we reasonably budget to rent a 2bd/2bath?
