I was just offered a CUNY role. The title is Higher Education Assistant. According to Glassdoor, the average annual pay for that role is $83,418. However, I was offered $62,500. I requested for the minimum annual salary to be 75k. Does anyone have experience navigating the CUNY system and their pay?

Only one way to find out, by asking. You could do this over an email and write something like “Thank you for the offer. I can’t wait to start and make a positive impact, etc etc. I just have one question on the offer, what will it take to get me to a base of X or bonus of X.” Add a couple of lines of reasoning to justify the ask, e.g. any relevant experience you already possess, tangible results you have driven relevant to the role, market research, etc.
End the email with something like “I don’t want salary to stand in the way of a great opportunity and welcome a conversation”
Good luck !
If you’ve got other offers use that as leverage, otherwise just to test the waters either in base, stocks or bonus.
So the other offers I received have a lower base and that’s why I didn’t want to negotiate.
Update: negotiation worked!
I always try to negotiate more. I would simply figure out what you want to ask for, and ask for it. It can't hurt.
Awesome! Mind sharing what part of the comp were you able to negotiate and by how much ?
I got the base salary up $5k!
