That sounds terrible. You might want to think about getting treated for your anxiety. There is unfortunately risk at schools now, but it certainly it isn’t reduced by being fearful about it all day. While it might sound like a way to prevent gun violence, my guess is that metal detectors would more likely just create long lines and induce more fear in children. There may be more high tech options now that allow kids to just walk though and still detect guns, and if the school district has the budget, that may not be a bad idea.

These are massively overstated and again, often include gang violence. Some of these incidents include things as pedestrian as someone shooting a school bus with a BB gun.
For reference, the FBI tallied up a total of three mass school shootings in 2023.
Having children is an anxiety-inducing endeavor. Sure school shootings do happen, but also what about them driving or dating or walking a dark street alone. All you (and they) can do is live life to the fullest - appreciate every moment. 🤷🏽
1) not great. I recognize they need to go - so they go to a private school which has a far lower rate of school violence than others because dirtbags who buy their kids AR-15s can’t afford to go there (and the school kicks out the looney kids way earlier)… we live in a great school district so the only reason my kids are in private is to get them away from the dirtbag class.
2) because they’ve been neutered by the gun lobby. They have margins many-many multiples on firearms & their accessories… so they’ve got tons of money to throw at keeping them in the hands of the people we should not want to have them. Somehow the people who have no business having weapons spend a 💩 ton more on firearms (and accessories) than sportsmen, hunters, or people who want a home defense weapon… so there is absolutely no incentive to get them to stop spending their money on it. The lobbyists want to convince the hunters, sportsmen, and reasonable people that THEY are who there would be restrictions on… which is an intentional misrepresentation unless they’re making psychotic threats online or beating their wife…
Also - guns have become a part of the culture. A certain segment of the population has made guns into something they are not. They’re weapons and tools - not a replacement for a personality and certainly not a dick-extender. Posing your wife and children with semi-automatic rifle pictures is “cool” in some circles (rather than a psychotic, anti-social behavior worthy of scorn & derision).
As a lifelong hunter & sportsman, I support reasonable regulations on firearms. The people in the Winder shooting this week should have never had access. I hope the “father” in this case never breathes another free breath again. If we cannot get some common sense regulations, at least let’s start frying the “parents” who allow this to happen. (Quotes used to mock them.)

Absolute fudd right here
Scared for sure. Not all day but something I think about most days especially after school shootings. Thinking about taking my kid out of public school and putting him in a private one. These shootings only seem to be a major issue at public schools. All the other solutions (metal detectors, more mental health support, better regulation) will take so long to implement (even if approved) that I’d rather focus on changing what’s within my control.
Agree MD1. The stats don’t lie.
Like others have said, this is why my kids go to a private school.
About $60k/year for both kids

Stop watching the news
It is statistically an **incredibly** rare occurrence, particularly when compared with other risks like motor vehicle accidents or even drowning
How am I being an asshole? I just asked for sources, just like you did in the thread above. But appreciate the response nonetheless.
Pray Psalm 91 over them every morning and night!
