Pay the $600 a year for an airline club card. You will recoup the cost fairly quickly
Chase Sapphire Preferred then. I can send over a referral link as well. It’s 95$ so I don’t think it’s worth or you to spend hundreds of dollars if you only travel once a quarter. It’s also a great everyday card too! No lounge access but if your goal is points for great value than this is it
Yes I meant to add this trip would be for our honeymoon. I’ll have to look at points and how they work. We are planning for Spring 2027 to go to Japan.
VentureX is always a great go-to. 2x on everything, 5x on airfare, and 10x on hotels. $395 annual fee but comes with $300 travel credit every year and 10,000 points (aka $100). Doesn’t have a foreign transaction fee either. I used this and my American Airlines card for my wedding/honeymoon in Hawaii. Lmk if you want a referral
I would look at credit cards that give you 1 point for every dollar spent, and has good airline partners.
Amex Platinum offers 150,000-200,000 points when you sign up. You can transfer those points to airlines. That’s a lot of points and can be 1-2 international business class seats. Look at THe Points Guy or The Mile guy to understand how to maximize points.
Bilt is a must if you pay, you get points for paying your rent, the easiest way to rack up points then transfer to airlines. It’s a credit card but also comes with a bank account/routing number so no credit card fee to pay rent with it.
I travel a lot. We have used the Capital One Venture card and I highly recommend it. There is an annual fee but we get so much back in travel credit that we don't even consider the fee. We are also very disciplined and put all of our expenses on the card to build up points throughout the year. We pay it off every month so we don't accrue interest. This past summer we went to Hawaii. There were 3 of us and it paid for our airfare to Oahu and our rental car while we were there and while we were in LA before we returned home. Depending on where we have gone, sometimes it pays for all of our airfare. I saw someone mention the Venture X card and we are seriously considering switching to that one since we know the travel credits basically cover the fee. But we tend to take one big trip every year.
When we typically travel we drive. We don’t fly. We maybe do 1-2 flights per year.
