Can “horizontal leadership” succeed without upper level support? Our company emphasizes horizontal leadership. The VPs want mid-level employees to control employees they do not manage. The idea works if people are willing to work for the greater good. Often someone needs convincing to do work outside their normal scope. Our VPs avoid using their authority to convince people outside their chain of command to help the team. The horizontal leader is blamed for the failure and leaves the company

I joined EY in January. Had no work all of January, but was busy for February and some of March.
