For S&C:
CL-4: “executive” junior MD, getting sales experience and proving yourself
CL-3: “sr executive” seasoned MD, can hit sales targets and proven track record. Given more opportunities to truly lead, will see them in a role like Market/Industry Function lead (e.g. T&O Change Lead for Americas)
CL-2: “director” deeply entrenched in a client, industry, or function. May be responsible for part of a P&L
CL-1: “SMD” MDs who run significant Accounts/P&Ls or global practice areas
GMC-1: SMDs tapped for more high profile leadership roles, most time is spent managing people
GMC: self explanatory, many different opinions on them these days
P2 - it’s not a downgrade. Accenture has weird terminology that’s sometimes repetitive and means different things. MD starts at CL-4, the other director title you are thinking of is CL-6/5. They aren’t related
Don’t come to Accenture. This place is where talent goes to die, where ambition, intelligence, and actual thought leadership get buried under layers of bureaucracy and mediocrity. Those of us still here are stuck, not by choice, but by mortgages, obligations, and the golden handcuffs of a fading brand. I haven’t seen a raise or a bonus in three years, and leadership? It’s a clown show, run by people completely out of their depth. The so called “strategy” is incoherent, delivered by folks who can barely communicate in clear sentences, let alone drive a vision. If you value your brain, your time, or your career trajectory, stay far away.
AU2- agreed. I’m increasingly feeling like I’m in a lower middle management role here.
L4 - Senior Manager with a sales target
L3 - Senior Manager with a bigger sales target
L2 - Associate Director with no relevant industry or practice expertise (but with a sales target)
L1 - Snipe
One at about $30M a year, some way overpaid, a few paid, then many underpaid, and then the steerage.
What has happened to Accenture - when I was there up to 2019, it was a fantastic organization.
Julie is the chair of the board and I’m sure appointed friendlies

L4 - associate partner
L3 - new partner / ramp
L2 - partner
L1 - senior partner

Happy to, however you might not want to join here. Other than a complete lack of strategy and crumbling stock price, MDs are not paid well.

This is vastly different than the numbers I got when I went through the MD recruiting process last year before DOGE cuts destroyed the recruiting process.
A3 - even VEIP is a 🐕
I know the range is huge but what would be L3 estimated comp for external hire in consulting
That’s what I am trying to gauge.
I’ve read there are 4 levels of MD, with L1 the highest formally called Senior MD. Is this accurate?
Yes.
