Can we talk about how 'holiday coverage' is just code for 'work while everyone else is off'? I've been guilt-tripped into covering three shifts between Christmas and New Year. Who decided this was fair?

Your boss, from the sound of it. AKA it isn't fair. The only good thing about working holidays is the time and a half pay. Everything else about it sucks.

Honestly, facts 😅 Time and a half helps a little, but it doesn’t make up for missing time with family or actually resting. “Coverage” always seems to fall on the same people too.

I dislike when they say that. We all know what it means at the end of the day. It’s like you are kind of forced to cover shifts on holidays. My company has blocked days for the holidays and I have to work no matter what. It’s annoying but I do get paid extra which I don’t mind.

Totally agree. I get that some roles need coverage, but the way it’s framed feels unfair. Extra pay helps, but it doesn’t really make up for missing time off while everyone else gets to unplug.
